Terry Zeigler
Combining a love of sports with a passion for the medical field, I have spent over twenty-five years working with college and high school athletes as a Certified Athletic Trainer specializing in the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries. I am a professor in Kinesiology at Vanguard University of Southern California and spend much of my time in the classroom and in the clinical setting teaching and preparing students for careers as allied health professionals.
I completed my doctorate in Higher Education with an emphasis in Health Care Education in 1999. My doctoral research led to a book published by Human Kinetics titled "Management of Bloodborne Infections in Sport" (1997). I am Certified as an Athletic Trainer through the National Athletic Trainers' Association's Board of Certification (1985).
My research in recent years has focused on improving safety in youth sports with a focus on the current scientific research in the recognition and management of concussion and reducing catastrophic injuries in cheerleading. Both topics are critical areas in sports medicine that impact thousands of young athletes every year. My goal is to provide the most current scientific information in an understandable format for those who are involved as administrators, coaches, athletes, and parents in youth sports.
As a professor in Kinesiology, I have a wide range of specialty areas including prevention, recognition, and treatment of athletic injuries, upper and lower extremity assessment, rehabilitation of injuries, movement anatomy, and ethics in health care.
